KEITH MOON ACTORS SINGERS! (1) BORIS VIAN

Today dead one of those dark and picturesque figures which, while not never be a musician of the highest order, are the foundation of American music. Jerry Reed, singer and composer, won several country hits in the 70's and early 80's, but it is certainly best known for his work as composer: Elvis Presley recorded two of their best songs, U.S. Male and Guitar Man, Johnny Cash did the same with A Thing Called Love and also sang tunes such Brenda Lee, Tom Jones, Dean Martin and Nat King Cole . In the 70, and parallel to his career, Reed appeared in several movies, most notable being the Smokey and the Bandit ( Smokey and the Bandit, 1977), which shared the limelight with the star of the moment, Burt Reynolds. His last film before he died was The Waterboy ( The Waterboy , 1998) and the firecracker Adam Sandler. With a filmography of 20 titles, Reed is an example of a case to be discussed in several chapters because there are material to cut. We talk about the singers decide to act and try his luck in movies. Already in May 2008 for the actors who dared to burn a disc, and now plays the response of the honorable members of the music industry. And Mr. Reed compels us to begin our review of country music.

Reed was an example for other country singers and drinking of the first singing cowboys on TV morning serials and movies. But if there is an artist who perfectly exemplifies the figure of the singer-actor Kris Kristofferson is . One of the great innovators of the country scene in the late 60's, Kris is a world-renowned singer who is also considered one of the most important composers of the genre with such topics as Help Me Make It Through The Night or Me And Bobby McGee . The latter issue became world famous after the great Janis Joplin interpreted it. The friendship between the two artists was so great that after Joplin's death from an overdose in 1970, a disenchanted Kristofferson abandoned music to work in cinema. Since then over time Kris sang again, but combining his music with an interesting film career.

son of an Air Force General, Kriss was forced into a military career in which he arrived to captain, to be a fighter and helicopter pilot. In 1972, in his second film, and gets a leading role in Cisco Pike alongside the likes of actors Gene Hackman and Harry Dean Stanton . The role of a former rock star turned into trafficker came to hair, given his problems with alcohol, they did break his marriage to fellow singer Rita Coolidge (who in turn had previously been a couple of Leon Russell ). Kris was an efficient actor had two powerful weapons in their favor, a tremendous physique and deep voice. This, coupled its popularity as a singer, made important directors were set on it. The case of master Sam Peckinpah western who counted on him to make of Billy the Kid in his great film Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid (1973), which co-starred with James Coburn and Bob Dylan in his first film, it certainly is the film for which Dylan wrote the wonderful song Knockin 'On Heaven's Door . Peckinpah subsequently gave him a small role in his late Kriss masterpiece Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia ( Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo GarcĂa, 1974), in which it biker. The latest collaboration between the two was the mediocre Convoy (1978), a film by truck drivers is the worst thing that made Peckinpah.

Kris had the good fortune to work with one of the greatest directors in the history of film, Martin Scorsese , in one of his early films, Alice Does not Live Here ( Alice Does not Live Here Anymore , 1974), a feminist and atypical film director who had large actors like Harvey Keitel and the wonderful Ellen Burstyn . The film gave rise to the Alice series and made Kris out indirectly one of the masterpieces of cinema, Taxi Driver, Scorsese. In the film Cybill Shepherd Kris speaks to Robert De Niro (Travis Bickle ) and this gives him her one of his records. In 1976 he starred alongside Sarah Miles one of his most controversial movie, The Marine Who Lost Grace Sea ( The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea ), adapted from the novel by Yukio Mishima (whose talk last month, by the way) in which so impressed by his brutal history as the nudity of the characters. Kris was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role.

starred Kris the third (and worst) screen adaptation of A Star is Born ( A Star Is Born, 1976) after Elvis Presley inability to participate in it . Accompanied by Barbra Streisand , the film tells the story of a rock star in decline. Kristofferson continued his film career during the 80 and 90, getting involved in hits like Lone Star (1996), Blade (1998) or the Tim Burton version of Planet of the Apes (Planet of The Apes , 2001). Kris has managed to combine a solid career and business with an interesting film career with nearly a hundred titles to his back.

Other country artists wanted to make the jump to the big screen, though none with the quality of Kristofferson. The legendary Johnny Cash participated in some movies, being especially remarkable star alongside Kirk Douglas The Grand Duel ( Gunfight , 1971). Kenny Rodgers has also been involved in numerous television productions and Willie Nelson makes frequent cameos in big budget movies.

On the female side we have one of the most recognizable icons of country, Dolly Parton , who has participated in several plays, both as an actress and in the soundtrack, most notably to Five his Chief ( 9 to 5 , 1980), with Jane Fonda and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas , 1982) in which you could see the chemistry with his co-star, Burt Reynolds back . In future chapters discuss other genres like pop and rock that have been great, or at least curious, singers-actors.
